NRDC X SUNDANCE

OBJECTIVE:

SNO worked with NRDC to specially curate a gallery of protest art from SNO’s archives along with pieces from their creative director, Shepard Fairey. The selected art, which focused on the environment, activism, and movement building, illustrated the power of art to tell stories, empower individual action, and create impact at a global scale. The goal of the collaboration was to spark dialogue and inspire people to take action to protect our planet and avert the climate crisis.

OVERVIEW:

The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), the nation’s most effective environmental action group, asked SNO to curate a gallery for its NRDC Impact Lounge, a four-day activation highlighting the importance of addressing climate change within film at the Sundance Film Festival in 2020.

The NRDC Impact Lounge featured protest artwork from SNO’s archives and select pieces from creative director Shepard Fairey that focused on the environment, activism, and movement building, illustrating the power of art to tell stories, empower individual action, and create impact at a global scale.

SNO also collaborated with Busy Beaver Button to create a special button pack featuring environmental-themed art to benefit NRDC and their continuing efforts to avert the climate crisis. These exclusive buttons debuted next door to NRDC’s Impact Lounge, where a series of panels discussing the importance of impactful storytelling in film and how climate stories can help change the cultural narrative about climate were taking place in partnership with Entertainment Weekly. Visitors to the Impact Lounge and panel speakers included NRDC President and CEO Gina McCarthy, Julia Louis Dreyfus, Ron Howard, Zazie Beetz, Eva Longoria, Robin Thede, and manny more.
